How did you personally become involved in fintech?
I was in the industry for a few years selling payment processing to small businesses. I saw first-hand a huge disconnect from customer experience, lack of transparency, and lack of value provided by payment companies to the SMBs. There had to be a better way, and so I decided to launch Fattmerchant and tackle this problem first hand.
What does your firm do/offer within the fintech sector?
Fattmerchant unifies the payment experience for the small business. Currently these businesses have to use many different payment companies to accept credit card processing. From mobile payments to invoicing, recurring, online commerce, and even in store solutions like terminals and point of sale – that’s a lot to manage. There is not a single company that connects the entire experience back into a single app for the merchant, but Fattmerchant does it through our first-of-its-kind integrated payments platform, Omni. Omni connects all the ways merchants need to accept payments and it provides business owners with robust analytics in real time to help them grow their business. Our advanced in-house technology also allows for integrations with popular business tools such as the first ever bi-directional QuickBooks integration, only available through Fattmerchant. Our unique approach has shaken up the fintech world, and we’ve received close to $20 million in capital funding to date and processed more than $2 billion in transactions.
What are the biggest problems facing the fintech industry in the future?
The speed at which consumer-based payment technology is advancing far exceeds that of merchant-based payment technology – we are always playing a game of catch-up. While consumers certainly need easy ways to pay through advanced technology, merchants need a seamless way to accept and manage payments. In the race to create the easiest and fastest ways for consumers to pay, merchants have been slightly left out. If we want consumers to continue purchasing goods and services, we owe merchants a better payments experience.
