Advisors have a love/hate (okay maybe more hate than love) relationship around compliance. And yet keeping the firm compliant is the key to running a successful and reputable wealth management practice, and staying in business for the long term. The new Compass compliance app, just launched by Orion, aims to help advisors minimize time wasted on SEC and state audits with a tool called - aptly - Audit, and also offers a new anti-money laundering tool as well, with additional compliance products planned for release in the near future. The products were developed in response to their client advisors' feedback, with the intent to help them tackle the incredibly complex regulatory environment with intelligent automation. We love it - this is really what fintech is all about at its best - simplifying the complex with technology.

OMAHA, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Orion Advisor Services, LLC ("Orion"), the premier portfolio management solution provider for registered investment advisors, has launched Compass, a robust new compliance app within Orion’s comprehensive Connect dashboard that enables firms to automate and enhance their compliance program ahead of shifting regulatory trends.

Powered by the thousands of data points derived from Orion’s solutions and technology partners, Compass distinguishes itself from other compliance tools by its ability to automatically mine and query information needed to prepare and respond to regulatory audit requirements, a traditionally manual process and common pain point among compliance professionals forced to pull data from unconnected silos.

“This tool is a result of the continuous feedback we’ve received from our advisors’ compliance officers,” said Kylee Beach, General Counsel of Orion. “As we work to address the particularly formidable regulatory landscape that exists in our industry right now, our goal is to arm our clients with tools that help them define and execute their compliance programs, and better protect their firms.”

Currently, Compass includes a range of capabilities to support a wide scope of routine filing and oversight obligations compliance teams face today, including:

  • Audit, a tool to run mock audits and automate information retrieval for SEC and state regulatory audits, and
  • Verify, a LexisNexis® Risk Solutions-integrated anti-money laundering (AML) screening service.

In addition, a number of additional solutions to complement these capabilities are planned for release in the near future, including a personal trading and employee attestation tool designed to validate a firms’ Code of Ethics obligations; custom risk matrices to identify, track, and mitigate risks within in the firm; and other tools to aid in the execution and management of a firm’s regulatory program.

With these abilities, Compass enables compliance officers to efficiently scale their operations and brings the potential to transform an otherwise manual compliance program.

"When I first saw the Compass app, I was blown away," said Kristor Lawson, Chief Compliance Officer for Schultz Collins, Inc. "I wish I had been able to use Compass years ago because it would have simplified things for us tremendously. But the regulatory environment is more complex every day, so I’m glad it is finally here. It will be terrifically useful."

“An unprepared firm can lose days of business scrambling to satisfy a regulatory audit,” said Eric Clarke, founder and CEO of Orion. “Compass puts compliance officers on the forefront of best practices that are or may soon become mandates and draws from the data already within our software. This is a ground-breaking tool that will only become more essential as our post-launch support continues.”
