Note from the Publisher: Most FintekNews readers are well acquainted with Overstock.com, and we must confess we’ve spent a few (thousand) dollars there over the years. We think it’s a great site. Many may – or may not – also be aware that Overstock is heavily invested in digital currency and blockchain research. They have a new head of Medici (their blockchain lab), who is also their chairman, and a former Utah governor candidate. Jonathan Johnson will oversee that division and the t0 efforts (that’s a zero, not an O) which is involved in the development of the Short Token, a product that moves stock loans to the blockchain. Overstock is also invested in fintech firms Bitt and PeerNova.
“Bitcoin’s most innovative merchant has a new blockchain lead.
E-commerce giant Overstock announced this week that chairman of the board and former candidate for Utah governor Jonathan Johnson will take a role as president of Medici, the division launched in 2014 to explore potential applications for blockchain technology. Johnson will also remain chairman of the board.”
