Apple Pay Hits Russia

Note from the Publisher:  Apple Pay continues to roll out worldwide, and its 10th new market will be Russia, following their launch in the US, UK, France, Canada, China and others.  However, things are not all sweetness and light with their Australian counterparts.  What?  The whole world doesn’t let Apple do whatever it wants, whenever it wants?  Shocking.

Alexander Torbakhov, deputy chairman of the executive board of Sberbank, says: ‘Apple Pay is driving the popularisation of contactless payments in Russia and globally.’

Apple Pay uses the MasterCard Digital Enablement Service (MDES) platform, which in turn uses EMV, tokenisation, cryptography and biometrics – to ‘ensure the integrity of cardholder information’………

(However), (t)he firm responded strongly to three of Australia’s big banks’ plans to team up for negotiation deals on digital wallet access.”
